Once upon a time I thought it was just a matter of time before I’d see NetBSD in my toaster and bike. Since then my DIY-trait has been retired (for now). But I am really happy to see this superb blend of an KTM’s RC8 a tumbler and a laptop running Linux.

Today the president’s Office of Management and Budget raised its projected 10-year budget deficit to $9.05 trillion dollars. Therefore, the current US national debt of $11.13 trillion dollars is expected to grow to around $20 trillion dollars by 2019. That’s a lot of money. So much money, that it is hard to visualize.

Truly so but it does some calculations and present a remedy:

Using a thickness of 1 micrometer (ten times the thickness of gold leaf), it looks like that with $20 trillion dollars you could gild all the Hawaiian Islands twice over and still have over $450 billion left over. For those not familiar with Hawaii, $20 trillion dollars is more than enough to gild Belgium. That’s a lot of gold!

The cheesy avoidance of fiat money in the country of Fiat

Via SvD I’ve found an interesting article in the New York Times on the acceptance of 17k tons of Parmesan cheese as securities by a bank in Italy. Proscuitto and olive oil seems to be next.

Maybe, just maybe, creative solutions to credit crunch related problems, such as the one above, may serve to inspire solutions for problems related to the current fiat money systems.

Relaunching 0z.se!

This is a quiet relaunch of the 0z.se site. The site was previously heavily preoccupied with Chavez random-walk in Venezuela. Not any more. The interest is not dropped, but I will treat this blog as a dump zone for whatever is on my mind and which don’t fit in other forums. I will follow all my whims, which (among other things) implies that I’ll be posting in both English and Swedish.
